Bob White Covered Bridge

Bob White Covered Bridge was built in 1921 and served as a connection between Route 8 and the Smith River Church of the Brethren. The Bob White Covered Bridge was designed and built by Walter Weaver and is an 80 foot, trussed construction. The bridge can be reached by traveling 1.5 miles south on Route 8, east one mile on Route 618 to Route 869, then south one-tenth of a mile. The bridge was sadly destroyed in the flood of September 2015.

Bull Mt. Fire Tower

The Bull Mountain Forest Fire Lookout Tower in Patrick County was originally a wooden structure built in 1943 for the Virginia Forest Service (VDF). It was replaced by the current 60ft Aermotor tower with 7ftx 7ft metal cab in 1949, and a one-room ground residence cabin was added in 1950.

Chateau Morrisette Winery & Restaurant

Virginia's largest winery. Fairy Stone State Park

Fred Clifton Park-Patrick County

Located on U. S. Route 58, at an elevation of 2930 feet, Fred Clifton Park provides breathtaking views of the northern Blue Ridge as well as access to a ridge top forest. A densely wooded area of oaks, maples and sassafras surrounds the picnic and parking areas. This area holds red-eyed vireo, wood thrush, northern cardinal and American goldfinch and in May and September, can support a high diversity of migrant cuckoos, thrushes, vireos, warblers, tanagers and grosbeaks. Butterflies can be found cruising through the picnic area at any time of day, with spicebush swallowtail being especially prevalent. Lovers Leap Scenic Overlook is located adjacent to the park.

Grave of William Letcher

William Letcher's grave is the oldest in Patrick County, VA. He was killed by a British Tory at his doorstep in 1780. He was the great-grandfather of Maj. Gen. J. E. B. Stuart, who was born on the family farm called Laurel Hill.

Jack's Creek Covered Bridge

Crossing the Smith River just west of Route 8 about two miles south of Woolwine, this 48-foot span bridge built of oak was constructed in 1914 by Charles Vaughan of the Buffalo Ridge area and designed by Walter Weaver of Woolwine. Mabry Mill Restaurant & Gift Shop

This is the most photographed location on the Blue Ridge Parkway! It was built in 1910, and the historic water-powered grist mill, sawmill and nearby blacksmith shop provide you with a view of pioneer life along the Parkway. Self-guided tours include a sorghum mill, soap making kettle, and an "old time" whiskey still. Mabry Mill is known for its stone ground grits, cornmeal, and buckwheat flour, which is why travelers and locals alike come back year after year for the Mabry Mill Restaurant's famous buckwheat cakes and country ham, and Virginia barbeque. Mayo River Rail Trail

Mayo River Trail has just been constructed in downtown Stuart, VA, just off Commerce Street following the path of the Danville and Western Railway ("Dick and Willie"). This trail is good for walking and bycycling. It has an asphalt smooth level surface. The trail also follows the Mayo River with an additional spur leading to the Landmark Assisted Living Center.

Pinnacles Hydro Plant

The Project offers a number of recreational opportunities: lake fishing in Townes and Talbott reserviors; river fishing below Power Plant; hiking and sightseeing. Canoeing - under normal conditions, one white water boating release will be provided below Pinnacles Powerhouse each weekend during July through October. Annually the "Kibler Valley River Run" is sponsored by the Red Bank Ruritan Club of Claudville, Virginia. This event attracts canoeist from throughout the region.

Spencer-Penn Preservation Organization/Spencer-Penn Centre

Historic Spencer Penn Centre was formed in 2004 as an education and special events center when the community bought the property after the closing of the public school. Since that time, renovations have brought the property up to modern day standards, while maintaining the historic integrity. Spencer Penn Centre has become a beautiful and versatile venue for hosting all kinds of family and business events. Small and large rooms are available at very reasonable rental rates. Education has always been the goal for Spencer Penn School since 1927 and remains so today. VA Tech/The Reynolds Homestead

Hardin William Reynolds and his wife Nancy Jane Cox Reynolds built an elegant, two-story brick home on Rock Spring Plantation near the village of Critz in 1843. Their son R. J. Reynolds, founder of the well known tobacco company, was born here in 1850. Civil War veteran, Major A. D. Reynolds, the father of the founder of Reynolds Metals Company, was born here also along with 14 other children. The original 19th century home, restored in 1970, has been designated a state and national historic landmark. The grounds include both a family cemetery and one of the few marked cemeteries of slaves and their descendants. A modern Continuing Education Center, operated by Virginia Tech, hosts a variety of cultural and educational activities throughout the year. A Virginia Tech Forest Research Center is located on the 717-acre property also.

Virginia Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame

The Virginia Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame currently has a liquor still that was seized in Patrick County in December of 1996.
