Dangermuffin at The Historic Star Theatre

Oct 12

October 12, 2024 - 7:00 PM 10:00 PM -- Historic Star Theatre. While it may be futile to try to define Dangermuffin’s sound, it is possible to pinpoint the themes that inspire much of the band’s music, and perhaps no theme is as prominent and consistent as nature, including the ocean, the sun, and the mountains...all ancient and powerful and capable of immeasurable and profound healing. These ideas, running like threads through almost every Dangermuffin album, together form the basis of some of the band’s most deeply held principles and teachings: respect the earth, stay open to the universe, and strive for healing. According to lyricist Dan Lotti, if Dangermuffin’s music could accomplish just one thing, it would be to heal. The vocal-centric songs are delivered both via acoustic string band arrangements (think Greensky Bluegrass) and a drum-fueled groovy & fiery jam-influenced arrangement (think Goose), often within the same show! For the band and fans alike, this has led to some of Dangermuffin’s most inspired, exciting, and surprising performances of its career. One Family Productions. October 12, doors: 7pm, music: 8pm Tickets are $20 in adv, $25 at the door. Tickets coming soon.

Rebecca Porter and The Rhinestone Roses at The Historic Star Theatre

Nov 9

November 9, 2024 - 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM - The Historic Start Theatre. A singer-songwriter born in Guam and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; Rebecca Porter continues to forge her way in country music with songs that balance her distinctive storytelling with the dynamics of her commanding voice in a unique display of soulful classic country. ?A lifelong innate connection to music guided Porter into performing live as a young adult. Through a decade’s worth of live performance with Harrisonburg-Rockingham County area musicians, Porter learned the ropes of life as a performing and recording artist. When her work in cover bands came to a pause after the birth of her first child, Porter found herself stumbling through parenting an infant during a global pandemic. The pandemic and motherhood left Porter yearning for the return to connection and music. Porter transformed her pandemic loneliness into two EPs - “Prime Rainbow Conditions” and 2023’s “Queen of the Local”, the latter of which was successfully crowdfunded based on Porter's formidable regional power. Porter tours extensively around her home state of Virginia, and steadily increasing forays outside the state, commanding stages up and down the East Coast. With completely independent legwork, her EP is making rounds nationally and internationally. One Family Productions. November 9, doors: 7pm, music: 8pm Tickets are 10 in adv, $12 at the door. People Incorporated Receives $300,000 To Support Women-Owned Businesses

Normally occurs in June

People Incorporated Financial Services has been awarded $300,000 through the Commonwealth’s Capital for Communities Fund (CCCF) to support and empower women entrepreneurs with accessible financial products and coaching. Funding will also support existing business lending and technical assistance across the agency’s 16 city and county service area. “This funding allows us to expand access to much-needed capital to historically underserved populations, including women-owned businesses and low-income community members,” said People Incorporated Director of Community Economic Development Stephanie Lillard. “Women entrepreneurs continue to face barriers to capital needed to grow or start their businesses, and we hope this funding will help break down walls and support the start-up and expansion of women-owned businesses across the commonwealth.” The Federal Reserve’s 2022 Small Business Credit Survey showed that women-owned businesses frequently encounter barriers to obtaining capital to support and grow their businesses. People Incorporated established People Incorporated Financial Services in 2000 to meet the financing needs of disadvantaged individuals and entrepreneurs in Southwest Virginia and has since expanded to serve the Northern Piedmont, Northern Shenandoah Valley and Greater Prince William regions with its loan products and financial services.
