Ricky Dawson owner of Dawson Photography Inc. holds both the Craftsman of Photography and Certified Professional Photographer from the Professional Photographer of America and has operated Dawson Photography since May 1978. He is the only professional photographer who holds both the Photography Craftsman and Certified Professional Photographer in the Martinsville and Henry County VA area. Ricky Dawson now holds his "Master Photographer" certification, a very prestigious certification.
Rick Dawson of Dawson Photography offers both studio and location portraits. The difference that is offer is tethering which allow the client to view the image as the session is happening. Using a 40-inch LCD TV each photo is seen after the camera and flash activate within the studio. A better way to view than the small screen on the back of the digital camera and the instant results with the individual and the photographer. Even on location, a laptop is provided to view the photo before all the equipment is packed up. This interaction also makes it easier for instance choice of the best picture. With the vast view, it allows a chance to move the studio lights to remove glare from the glasses or the dreaded double chin.
The professional business portrait is placed in front of a green screen which allows the color to be changed. Each person is photograph at different angles to show the best look at the individual's faces. Since the subject is viewing the image, they can decide what look they are trying to achieve. Even if for a foundation or a new physician at the hospital each background will be the same for one year to another. Using a green screen on location allow the opportunity to work within a timetable that allows the subject to have their pictures taken without leaving the office or hospital.
Location portrait is made by using off-camera flash or reflectors to enhance the face and also showing the eyes. Even if it a large family each person is posed to show their best features within a group. Each individual discussed the finished image and the size that they want to be printed. When the group is larger as a high school marching band or a high school class reunion a ladder is used to allow all faces are showed.

Martinsville and Henry County Photographer Earns Master of Photography
Rick Dawson Cr. Photog., CPP, AFP of Dawson Photography Inc. recognized for superior image
making and photographic service with a degree from Professional Photographers of America.
Martinsville and Henry County, November 3, 2023, Rick Dawson Cr. Photog., CPP, AFP of Dawson
Photography Inc. in Martinsville and Henry County has earned the Master of Photography degree from
Professional Photographers of America (PPA). The degree will be presented to Dawson by PPA president
Kira Derryberry, M.Photog. Cr., CPP at the association’s annual convention, Imaging USA, to be held in
Louisville, KY, in January 2024.
The Master of Photography degree is an achievement of the highest caliber. It means that Dawson has met
the standards of excellence set by PPA. He has been awarded this degree in recognition of his superior
photographic competence demonstrated through image excellence, advanced education, and service to the
profession.
Dawson degrees—and all the expertise they require—illustrate his accomplishments and talent as one of a
select few.
