Drive Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway - "America's Favorite Scenic Drive". Extending 469 miles along the crests of the Southern Appalachians the Parkway's spectacular natural beauty, wildlife and foliage is highlighted by picnic facilities, camping, hiking trails, waterfalls and sweeping overlooks. It meanders in and out of Patrick County for a 30 mile stretch from milepost 162.9 to 192.5. Much of its distance through the area is considered the dividing line between Patrick and Floyd and between Patrick and Carroll Counties.
Pictured here is the Flame Azalea, a medium shrub with brigh orange to red flowers. Azaleas are in the rhododendron family, usually blooming June-July.
