Ms. K. Joanne Hill, Visiting Teacher for Patrick County Public Schools was recognized as the Virginia Visiting Teacher/School Social Worker of The Year at the annual conference of the Virginia Association of Visiting Teachers and School Social Workers

held in Roanoke, October 15-17, 2007. Ms. Hill was nominated by the Roanoke Regional Chapter of the Association and received letters of recommendation from her supervisor, John Westphalen, Director of Special Education, and Ricky Fulcher, Patrick County School Board Member. The Virginia Association of Visiting Teachers/School Social Workers began recognizing an outstanding Visiting Teacher/School Social Worker of The Year at their annual state conference in 2001. Ms. Hill has been a member of the organization since she began her duties as Visiting Teacher in 1991.
In recommending her for this prestigious award, Mr. Westphalen commented, “Ms. Hill is a vital asset and integral piece of the machine that drives Patrick County Schools to be one of the top ten school divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia.� Mr. Rickie Fulcher of the School Board stated, “Joanne has been instrumental in her capacity as Visiting Teacher in bringing the importance of school attendance to the far front in Patrick County.�
Dr. Roger Morris, Division Superintendent, is pleased on behalf of the School Board to acknowledge this recognition of Ms. Hill’s success in becoming Virginia Visiting Teacher School Social Worker of The Year. “This award is a tribute to an individual who has impacted the lives of parents and students in Patrick County. Ms. Hill’s dedication and hard work is finally getting the attention it deserves,� said Dr. Morris.
In honor of this special recognition, $500.00 will be donated by the Virginia Association of Visiting Teachers and School Social Workers to the charity of Ms. Hill’s choice.
