Fitness In Town (FIT)-Virginia Cooperative Extension Fitness Training.

Does walking or running a mile seem impossible to you? Have you had the goal of training for a 5K on your bucket list? Would you like to be part of a group that has fun and gets fit at the same time?

.I.T. (Fitness in Town) Stuart: Keeps Going! Does walking or running a mile seem impossible to you? Have you had the goal of training for a 5K on your bucket list? Would you like to be part of a group that has fun and gets fit at the same time? What about your children, do you think they would be interested in finishing a 5K with you? Virginia Cooperative Extension FIT Stuart “couch to 5K” training focuses on beginners, but all levels of walkers and runners are welcome. The program is structured to help you cross the finish line of your first 5K in six weeks. Along the way we provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, weekly group training walks or runs, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear, and avoiding injury. But the most popular reason for participating in the program is you’ll have the support of others just like you. If you’re looking to increase your distance consider preparing for the Half Marathon! Half marathon training group forming now, contact Rebecca for more information. Looking for something for the whole family? Happy Soles Running is the new youth component! This portion of the program is designed for children 5 and up with all levels of ability. The youth programs will be offered the same dates and times as the adult program to encourage families to work toward the goal race together. The program will begin Tuesday July 31st , 2012 and meet every Tuesday and Thursday for six weeks leading up to our goal race of Partnership for the Arts 5k, scheduled for September 8th , 2012. The program fee is $40.00 and includes two supervised training sessions held on Tuesdays (DeHart Park) and Thursdays (Mayo River Rail Trail) at 5:30,reduced entry fee to the 5K, a water bottle, t-shirt, journal, and other goodies. If you are unable to participate based on the fee, scholarship money may be available. Please request a scholarship form if you are interested in participating but unable to pay the participation fee. Forms as well as other information will be available at the Patrick County Extension Office.
