Cathy Vann is the New Kitchen Manager at The Spencer Penn Centre

The Spencer-Penn Centre has hired Vann as Community Kitchen Manager, with 15yrs of food and beverage management and catering experience. She is a native of Henry County, having grown up in the Fieldale area and graduating from Bassett High School.
Vann received a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Virginia. While attending UVA, she began working in the restaurant industry at an Outback Steakhouse in Charlottesville, VA. This sparked an interest in the food and beverage industry, specifically management, that led to many more opportunities in the industry. After building a strong foundation of management skills at Outback, she then moved on to a variety of other positions and continued to expand her skills as a manager. She has worked in a wide variety of restaurants. Her former employers range from large chains such as Outback Steakhouse and Chili’s, to fine dining establishments such as Market Street Inn in Salisbury, MD and Starr Hill Brewery in Charlottesville, VA.
The Spencer-Penn Community Kitchen is a state-certified commercial kitchen available for rent to aspiring chefs, caterers, and entrepreneurs interested in marketing retail food products . The Centre offers many special advisory services, such as business planning, certification processes, contacts, and necessary forms. The Centre also hosts a variety of classes such as cooking classes, cake decorating and kid’s cooking camps. The Spencer –Penn Centre is pleased to have Cathy on board and is looking forward to expanding the activities of the community based kitchen.
