8/5/11 - Patrick County unemployment went to 8.6% in June 2011, which was up from 8.3% in May 20011
In Patrick County, there were 9,568 people in the labor force in June, down from 9,699 in May but up from 9,413 in June 2010. There were 823 jobless residents in June, up from 801 in May but down from 1,017 in June 2010, data showed.
The statewide unemployment rate for June was 6.3 percent, the VEC reported. The locality with the lowest unemployment rate was Arlington County at 3.9 percent. After Martinsville, the highest rates were in Williamsburg (14.0 percent), Petersburg (12.7 percent), Emporia (12.2 percent) and Danville (12.1 percent).
