Patrick County Pink Panthers Run in Susan Komen Race-Roanoke

Patrick County Pink Panthers team raised $1,555 at the 2nd Annual Susan G. Komen Greater Roanoke Race for the Cure in Green Hill Park ini Salem, ,VA

The Patrick County Pink Panthers Team represented Patrick County at the 2nd Annual Susan G. Komen Greater Roanoke Race for the Cure at Green Hill Park in Salem, Virginia, Saturday, April 9th. Participants that day could do a 5K run or walk or a 1 Mile Family Fun Walk. Kimberly McBroom and Hollani Davis with WDBJ7 were the co-emcees for the race. Approximately 2,500 people turned out despite the gloomy weather. The weather was cold and nasty, but it still was a beautiful day! There were so many dedicated runners, walkers, and supporters who braved the elements to be there. The efforts certainly paid off...Saturday's race raised over $310,000.00. Just hearing all of the survivor stories proves how strong and determined these women are. Patrick County Pink Panthers team raised $1,555. The Greater Roanoke Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world. The Greater Roanoke Valley Komen Affiliate’s services area covers nineteen counties in the Western part of Virginia which includes Patrick County.
