William Taylor Mitchell Passes Away - Claudville-VA

Mr. William Taylor Mitchell, age 90 of Claudville, VA and widower of Maydee Watson Mitchell passed away on March 24, 2011 in the Blue Ridge Nursing Home of Stuart, VA

The following obituary is from the Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy, NC Mr. William Taylor Mitchell, 90, of Claudville, VA, widower of Maydee Watson Mitchell, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, VA. Mr. Mitchell was born April 11, 1920 in Patrick County, VA to the late John Taylor and Lillie Smith Mitchell. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II during the South Pacific Theater. He was a true war hero, farmer and innovator. He was a well known accountant having worked for Pike Electric, Mt. Airy Tractor, Spencer’s Inc and Robby’s Army Store. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Unity Church. He was a shining example of the “greatest generation�. He was a credit to his ancestry, his family, his community and indeed the country itself. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mike Straka, Richmond, VA, a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Linda Mitchell, Claudville, VA, four grandchildren and spouses, Randall Taylor and Tish Mitchell, Roanoke, VA, Kevin Alan and Sharon Mitchell, Kernersville, NC, Amy and Judd Manuel, Kenai, Alaska and Christopher and Kelly Collins, Claudville, VA, five great grandchildren, Landon Alan Mitchell, and Nathan Franklin Mitchell both of Kernersville, NC, Reid Taylor Mitchell and Lillie Kershaw Mitchell both Roanoke, VA and Ashton Paige Collins, Claudville, VA. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Richardson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Unity Church conducted by Rev. Buford Jessup Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites to be conducted by the Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 Mt. Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain.. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Monday at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
