I-77 was closed by State Police in Carroll County, VA due to high winds that wrecked tractor trailer trucks
Mar. 7-WXII Channel 12 News -CARROLL COUNTY, Va. -- High winds prompted Virginia State Police to close Interstate 77 traffic lanes in Carroll County, just north of the Virginia/North Carolina state line.
Officials said the northbound center lane and right lane are closed to traffic after the winds toppled two tractor-trailers overnight.
The lanes are expected to remain closed until 5 p.m., when winds are expected to die down.
Crews were working to upright the overturned vehicles, police said.
Motorists were encouraged to avoid the area.
That stretch of highway is prone to high winds that topple tractor-trailers. Several tractor-trailers were also knocked over by a wind storm in 2003.
