Report on Patrick County Board of Supervisors Meeting - January 12-2011

This is a news report prepared by Tom Bishop, as a result of the January monthly meeting of the Patrick County Board of Supervisors on January 12, 2011

Board of Supervisors Meeting on January 12, 2011 Selection of New County Administrator Tom Rose was selected as the new County Administrator. He has served in an Interim capacity since Jay Scudder left in October, 2010. Selection of a New Chairman of the Board Roger Hayden of the Dan River District was chosen as the 2011 Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. The vote was 4-0, unanimous, with 1 abstaining. Dr. Lock Boyce, from Peter’s Creek District was selected as Vice Chairman for 2011 on a vote of 3-1 with one abstaining. Karl Weiss of Blue Ridge District voted no. Executive Session - No. 1 The Board went into Executive Session to cover personnel and legal matters at approximately 6:05 pm and came out at 8:10 pm, when they voted to select a Chairman. Roberts Rule of Orders They voted 5-0 to use Robert’s Rule of Orders for their deliberations. Monthly Meeting Schedule The decided to meet regularly on the 2nd Monday of every month at 6:00pm. They will meet, if necessary, 2 weeks later on Monday at 6:00pm. The passed on a unanimous vote. Public Comment Period Only 2 persons gave public comment. Local Emergency Planning Committee Report Steve Allen, Emergency Services Coordinator, presented a report from the Planning Committee describing the Disaster Response plan. Chairman of this Committee was Steve Allen, and Chris Garrett served as Vice Chairman. Chris is from Franklin County and represents the West Piedmont Emergency Planning Division. The Committee Report was adopted on a unanimous vote. Steve and Chris were complimented for their good work. Risk Control Consultant Employed Tom Rose, Interim Administrator, announced the hiring of John Bowling, Risk Control Consultant who will inspect the Landfill at no cost to the County. Executive Session No. 2 They went into Executive Session the second time to deal with Personnel matters at 9:03 p. m. The came out in public session at 10:58 p. m. and announced the selection of Tom as the new County Administrator. Stuart Park Project They approved a Stuart Park Project in the amount of $4300. This was money which came from the Park money allocated to Mayo River District for a new park which was never spent. This was a unanimous decision. News Report prepared by Tom Bishop
