2nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Meadows of Dan Scheduled for November 27, 2010
The Meadows of Dan Community Association is sponsoring the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Meadows of Dan on Saturday, November 27, 2010, with activities beginning at 4 PM.
“We were amazed at the turnout last year,� commented Dreama Stimely, Chair of the Association. “Nearly 250 people joined us for the tree lighting last November so the group decided to expand our activities and offer more.�
A Christmas parade is scheduled for 4 PM on November 27, kicking off what has turned out to be a nice event for Meadows of Dan. The parade will begin at Mountain Made Ice on Light Ridge Road and travel through the community on JEB Stuart Highway to the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. The best points to see the parade will be in front of the elementary school, the community building and in the business area of Meadows of Dan.
The Meadows of Dan Fire Department is taking part in the parade with fire trucks and ambulances and several businesses are planning to have floats in the parade. Also planned are several choirs from area churches, horses, classic cars, tractors and representatives of area civic groups. The Patrick County Chamber of Commerce is also expected to take part. The Grand Marshall is Brooks Bradbury, General Manager of Primland and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be arriving in Meadows of Dan just before the parade.
In an exclusive interview with Mrs. Claus, she stated, “Santa is going to be riding in the parade and then he is going to be available on the porch of Christmas in the Meadows on JEB Stuart Highway to give out treats and talk to young folks about what they want for Christmas.� Children 10 years old and younger are welcome to bring their Christmas lists. Santa will be available after the parade and until the tree lighting, and then afterward if children still want to see him.
Businesses in Meadows of Dan will be open late and offering treats and drinks to visitors between the end of the parade and the tree lighting ceremony. Two By Two BBQ, on JEB Stuart Highway, will have punch and cookies after the parade. Mountain Meadow Farm and Craft Market, on Squirrel Spur Road just off JEB Stuart Highway, will have eggnog, candy canes and gingerbread cookies. Register at the Market for a gift basket giveaway. Dan River Books on Concord Road is having home baked cookies. Poor Farmer's Market will also have treats available. Primland and Round Meadow Enterprises and Drafting & Design Services will be serving hot chocolate and cookies near Christmas in the Meadows.
Nancy's Fudge will be open until 5:30 PM on Tree Lighting Day and is offering a free medium N. Collection Truffle with a $10 or more purchase at the shop. Meadows Mercantile and Christmas In The Meadows will have a 25% OFF SALE on everything except consignment items. Also, Christmas In The Meadows will have a drawing for a Meadows of Dan Christmas Ornament and Meadows Mercantile will draw for a Meadows of Dan sweatshirt. Both stores will be open late. Visitors are encourage to visit these and other unique shops in Meadows of Dan to begin the Christmas shopping season.
Sue Nester will be performing and leading visitors in Christmas carols, also near the Meadows Mercantile and Christmas in the Meadows shops, between the parade and tree lighting ceremony.
Rees Woody of Mayberry is donating the 18 foot tree that will be decorated and lit at 6 PM at the corner of Squirrel Spur Road and JEB Stuart Highway, near the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. Blue Ridge Tree Climbing is providing the Yule fire.
