Denny Hamlin Wins Martinsville Race-Sunday, Oct. 25

October 25, 2009

Denny Hamlin, No. 11, won the Tums 500 lap race at Martinsville, VA on Sunday, Oct. 25th. Weather was great! Pictured here is his spin-out as he celebrated the win.

Denny Hamlin passed Jimmie Johnson with 138 laps to go, and wins for second time at Martinsville. Denny drives for Joe Gibbs Racing It was a fun afternoon for me, my son-in law Tony West, and my grandsons, Luke and John West. It is a great rush, watching 40+ cars race down the straightaway, bumper to bumper, at 90+ miles per hour. Martinsville is a great place to watch a race. There is not a bad seat in the raceway. It is a very nice stadium and with great amenities. The TV screen was a tremendous help to me an amateur fan so I could track what was going on at any time. The Goodyear blimp hovered overhead all day, with lots of excitement from the racetrack and at the conclusion, lots of helicopters coming and going, providing additional excitement for the grand sons. The Martinsville Raceway is a tremendous attraction for Martinsville and Henry County, VA which has been plagued with 20%+ unemployment. The traffic was handled extremely well by the Sheriff and State Police at the conclusion of the race. Article by Tom Bishop Photo by Tom Bishop
