White spaces left over when analog TV went digital are now available to transmit broadband Internet services. A test case is being used in Claudville, VA by Trinity Christian School.
Claudville Uses White Spaces For Broadband
The small tower at the Red Bank Ruritan Club building on Red Bank School Road is being used to transmit the service. Spectrum Bridge,, Inc. has joined forces with other technology companies to bring this service to Claudville community where High Speed services are hard to come by.
One of the first users of this technology is Trinity Baptist Christian School on Gammons Road, Claudville, VA.
Other technology companies involved in the project are Dell Computer, Microsoft and the TDF Foundation. Citizens Telephone from Floyd, VA is also involved and is providing the High Speed service using this experimental technology.
This has been made possible with an experimental license granted by the Federal Communications Commission
Congressman Rick Boucher’s office has been involved with the project to bring TDF Foundation to the table.
