Congressman Rick Boucher Reports on Blue Ridge Heritage Sept. 29

Congressman Rick Boucher will give a report on the research just completed on the Blue Ridge Heritage Project (i. e. Rocky Knob) Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at 9:30am at Chateau Morrisette Winery
In 2006 Congressman Rick Boucher obtained a $1.2 million appropriation for the development of a visitor attraction and trail system associated with the Rocky Knob area of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The attraction is intended to spur economic development in Floyd and Patrick Counties through tourism. Later that year the Rocky Knob Advisory Committee, comprised of interested citizens from Patrick and Floyd Counties, began work to determine the types of attraction and the themes that would be most appropriate
Last year, using a portion of the funding provided by Congressman Boucher, Blue Ridge Heritage, Inc., the non-profit corporation formed to manage the project, procured a study of the ideas generated by the Advisory Committee to determine which ones would be of the greatest interest to the traveling public. The experts were also charged with suggesting several visitor attraction ideas that could be financially sustainable over the long term and providing an economic impact analysis of these ideas.
The findings of the study will be unveiled to the public at a meeting hosted by Congressman Boucher at Chateau Morrisette on September 19 beginning at 9:30 AM. The meeting will be held in the W.F. Morrisette Room in the Winery Building. Everyone interested in collaborating further on the development of the tourist attraction near Rocky Knob is encouraged to attend.
