BULL RIDING AT THE FAIR-Patrick County, VA

Don Jones, with East of Mesquite Rodeo, Inc., said they had twenty-one open riders scheduled for the bull riding event for Wednesday, September 23rd at the amphitheater at Rotary Field, in Stuart, VA, starting at 8 PM. “We are excited to add the Rodeo to the fair� said Sonny Swails, chairman of the fair for the Stuart Rotary Club, “we couldn’t have done it without sponsor Boyce-Holland Veterinary Services�. It will be an unusual roundup of open riders. About two-thirds have ridden in PBR events, including David Long, Chase Chandler, Josh Faircloth, and Carlos Garcia, who just won Jerome Davis PBR both nights. “Grow our own cowboys� is a saying that is true with bull rider Micheal Lane, who has been riding for fifteen years and he is only nineteen. He started riding mutton busting at the age of four and bucked his way to wining the Virginia High School Rodeo belt buckle for many years, and finished fourteenth in the National High School Bull Riding, among many other achievements and awards including riding in the PBR. The rodeo is open to amateur bull riders $30, calf/steer riding $20, and for the young ones mutton bustin’ for $10 entry fee. Every rider must sign a release prior to riding. Anyone under the age of 18 requires a parent or legal guardian to be present and to sign the release for the rider. The Patrick County Agricultural Fair opens with its ribbon cutting ceremony with Janice Wilkins, president of the Stuart Rotary Club at 5 PM on Tuesday, September 22nd, gates open at 5:30 PM rides start at 6 PM and continues daily through Saturday, September 26th. Nightly ride specials are $20 wrist band for unlimited rides, from 6 PM until 10 PM. Student discount Tuesday and Thursday, of $2 with coupon for ride wrist bands and free fair admission. Thursday is senior night, ages sixty and over admitted free. Don’t miss other special events at the amphitheater, Tuesday - horse demonstration; Wednesday - rodeo; Thursday - sprint cars; Friday - demolition derby; and Saturday - tractor pull. There is something for the whole family at the fair, rides, midway, food, agriculture exhibits, nightly entertainment featuring artist from Patrick County, and the new barn showing both large and small livestock.
