Patrick County Board of Supervisor's Meeting - June 8th

June 8-News Report for WHEO. The Patrick County Board of Supervisors met on Monday, June 8th at the County Administrative Building.

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors met Monday evening, June 8 at 6:00pm. Key decisions were as follows: • Approved the new tax levy of $.48 (cents) on $100 assessed value. Vote was 4-1, with Crystal Harris of Blue Ridge District voting No. • Adopted the 2009-2010 County budget with a vote of 4-1, with Crystal Harris voting No. This included a motion to take the Library Fund budget from 5% cut to only 2.5% cut. On this motion it was a 4-1 vote with Lock Boyce voting No. • Adopted a proposal to declare May 30 as a Memorial (Recognition) Day in Patrick County. This does not change the Federal Holiday which recognizes Memorial Day on a Monday. Vote was unanimous. • Adopted a proposal to bill residents for taxes twice a year. Vote was 4-1, with Crystal Harris voting No. • Unanimously adopted a proposal from the School Board to pay for the replacement of the Cafeteria serving lines, in order to meet ADA guidelines, in the amount of $221,955. This will be taken out of the food services account. This will not affect federal, state or local revenues. • Approved the expenditure of approximately $370,000 for water service to the Patrick County High School. Funding for this comes from settlement of a Class Action lawsuit concerning well contamination of the chemical MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether). No funding is required from local, state or Federal sources. The vote was unanimous. The Town of Stuart will provide 180,000 gallons of water per month, with a 12 inch line and will provide six fire hydrants. • Approved a Communication Tower ordinance unanimously after making amendments as follows:  A. The Blue Ridge Parkway will be notified of site plans that are within the view shed. The County will not be bound by their comments.  B. Preservation of natural vegetation must be preserved, and they must build an evergreen buffer if there is no vegetation.  C. Cell tower can be located as close as ½ mile from the center line of the US Parkway roadway. Report by Tom Bishop
