National Crime Victims' Rights Week-Apr. 26-May 2

Celebrating National Crime Victims' Rights Week in Patrick County April 26-May 2. All events are open to the public and FREE!

Sunday, April 26th WALK/RUN FOR A CAUSE DAY IN THE PARK Enjoy a walk/run around the trail at Dehart Park (2-4pm) with this peaceful but powerful “kick-off� event for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week! You can walk/run anytime between the hours of 2-4pm! Thursday, April 30th PART I: “A Judicial Journey: A Victim’s (Survivor’s) Perspective� & Friday, May 1st PART II: “A Grief Like No Other…� Ms. O’Hara is a psychotherapist, survivor, and author. She has become a national public speaker, workshop and retreat leader, and tireless worker on behalf of victim’s rights and services. She works with many organizations and victims’ service providers to help them serve victims with compassion and justice. Both presentations will be held in the Virginia Motor Sports Auditorium at the Patrick County Community Center in Stuart from 10:00 - 12:00 with lunch, door prizes, and book signing to follow! Make your reservations early! Thursday, April 30th SERVICE PROVIDER WORKSHOPS The workshops will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Virginia Motor Sports Auditorium at the Patrick County Community Center in Stuart. “IDENTITY THEFT: Your good name gone bad�, presented by Captain Ward Stone from the Patrick County Sheriff’s Department. “THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED IN CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT�, presented by a panel from the Department of Social Services. “WHEN GOOD PEOPLE GO BAD: Resolving chronic misbehavior problems in children, adolescents, and adults�, presented by Behavioral Specialist, Brad Haynes, from Piedmont Community Services. “A TIME TO GROW: Taking steps forward in community awareness, intervention, prevention, and recovery for those affected by domestic and sexual violence�, presented by Victim Advocate, Sandy Dawson from Citizens Against Family Violence. Refreshments, coffee, and door prizes will be enjoyed at this event! Make your reservations early! Saturday, May 2nd HELPING HANDS DAY IN THE PARK Join us at Dehart Park from 2pm-5pm. Organizations from the area will be at the park providing YOU free information on their services and programs available to Patrick County citizens! Live music and entertainment include former VA Tech football star, Tommy Edwards, AND “The Joyful Noise�. Teens are invited to participate in “pick-up� games! Other activities include: firearm safety, child seat belt safety, and self-defense demonstrations! You don’t want to miss “Bobber� the water safety dog and much, much more! All ages will enjoy this opportunity as we join together to promote awareness of NCVRW and our local resources.
