Unemployment in Patrick County reaches 10.2% in December

Jan. 30-Unemployment in Patrick County, VA went up to 10.2% in December 2008 with 958 people unemployed. This compares to November when they had 8.1% unemployed with 759 out of work.
This compares to December 2007 when Patrick had 4% unemployed with 371 people unemployed.
Martinsville, VA had the highest unemployment with 15.4% in December, 2008 and 1010 enemployed. This is the highest unemployment rate in Virginia, with Danville in 2nd place with 13.9% unemployed.
Statewide, Virginia had 5.2% unemployment and at the national level was 7.1%.
