IMPROVE BUSINESS WRITING SKILLS
CRITZ, VA (January 21, 2009)—We live in world where communication is paramount to survival. In a work environment where communication is equated with the professionalism and efficiency of an individual, would you jeopardize your career because of bad writing? Do you want the embarrassment of sending out a poorly written email to your peers? Can you risk sending out badly written communications to customers and putting your company's reputation on the line? Of course not, no one aspires to be a bad writer. No one wants to communicate badly.
The Reynolds Homestead is offering a crash course in business writing skills that will help remedy some of those writing woes. “Effective writing skills are a concern for most people I meet in the business world, says instructor Lisa Martin. “And the truth is, some of the rules have changed since many of us learned our skills back in grade school or college. As our forms of communication change, so too do the rules for being effective.
From the basics of business communication to the nitty-gritty of formatting, punctuation, tone and language--this course covers all the fundamentals. As a one stop guide to a professional's writing career, the class is ideal for assistants, secretaries, executives, managers, and senior managers of any company or organization. Learn about the common mistakes we make when writing a business letter. Learn about how to write business emails. And learn how to be politically correct in a rapidly growing world economy.
The course is entitled “Better Business Writing: Communicating in the 21st Century, and it is being offered on Tuesdays in February upstairs in the Continuing Education Center, beginning on the 3rd, and continuing on the 10th, 17th, and 24th. The class runs from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and will cover such topics as “Knowing Your Audience, “The Tone of Your Communications, “Being Politically Correct, and “Using Email for Business Correspondence. The cost of the course is $80, and all class materials will be provided.
“I encourage anyone who is interested in improving his or her communication skills to take the course, says Martin. “For some it will be a refresher for things you may have forgotten, but for others, this will be a leap into understanding the ways in which communications have changed.
