Patrick County Public Schools 104 Rucker Street Stuart, VA 24171 Contact: Pepper Martin FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tel: 276-694-3163 Email: pisdc@patrick.k12.va.us Classroom teachers throughout Patrick County Public Schools are participating in “Adopt-A-Classroom. This national program, which is in its 10th year of existence, strives to increase opportunity for student success by empowering teachers with community partners and funds to purchase resources for the classroom. Created as a link between donors and classroom teachers, the program provides information from teachers about various classroom needs, and allows the sponsor to contribute either online or through the mail. “Adopt-A-Classroom has been featured in many different media outlets, including EdNews, Extra!, Self, and USA Today. Nationally, teachers spend on average $1,200 of their own money every year to purchase supplies and materials for their classroom. Although the school system provides seed funds for classroom materials, many projects that teachers do with their students require supplemental funds. All schools have fundraisers to support school activities, but it is the teacher that usually funds individualized classroom activities. “Adopt-A-Classroom serves as an organizational resource for teachers to help supplement and support these classroom projects. Parents are often very supportive of their child’s classroom, and frequently remark on parental involvement surveys distributed throughout the schools, “I would love to help – just let me know how! This program provides detailed needs of the classroom, accountability of the teacher when using the funds, and a way for the parent to help that is tax-deductible. “Adopt-A-Classroom will prove to be very beneficial to teachers in the upcoming school years. The community support not only bolsters teacher morale but also student enthusiasm for school. ### If you would like more information about this topic please call Pepper Martin at 276-694-3163 or e-mail Pepper at pisdc@patrick.k12.va.us More information about “Adopt-A-Classroom can be found at www.adoptaclassroom.org
