The Town of Stuart approved tax increases on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. They include Meals Tax, Cigarette Tax and increase in business professional, and occupational tax.

Business Professional and Occupational Tax cap was raised from $2500 to $5000. Cigarette Tax ordinance of 10 cents per pack. Meals tax effecting restaurant meals or "ready to eat" at 4%. Increased dumpster fee from $105 to $125 per month.
