A MESSAGE FROM DELEGATE CHARLES POINDEXTER 9TH DISTRICT REPRESENTIVE

Last week, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services announced that several schools in Franklin, Henry and Patrick Counties will receive grant funding for school safety and security infrastructure. Last year, the Virginia General Assembly passed HB 2343 establishing the "School Security Infrastructure Improvement Fund" and "Local School Safety Fund." The 2013 budget amendments authorized over $6 million for this fund, and the 2014 budget authorized an additional $6 million. I was a co-patron and voted in favor of HB 2343, which was proposed by Republicans in the House of Delegates, and supported the budget amendments that funded these grants.
The following schools in Franklin, Henry and Patrick Counties that will receive grant funding for security upgrades are as follows:
· Franklin County - $65,338 for Benjamin Franklin Middle-West and Dudley Elementary
· Henry County - $53,900 for Bassett High, Drewry Mason Elementary, Fieldale-Collinsville Middle, Laurel Park Middle and Magna Vista High
· Patrick County - $20,470 for Blue Ridge Elementary, Meadows of Dan Elementary, Patrick County High and Patrick Springs Elementary
