CITIZENS AGAINST FAMILY VIOLENCE AND CONTACT 3RD ANNUAL COMMUNITY CUP

August 25, 2014
On Saturday August 30, 2014 Citizens Against Family Violence and CONTACT Listen Line will sponsor the third annual Community Cup Softball fundraiser. This year’s event will feature a softball game between law enforcement agencies and community members in Martinsville/Henry County versus law enforcement personnel in Danville. The Community Cup will feature fun for the whole family, including pre-game music, a dunking booth, 50/50 raffle, pizza, drinks, and the featured showdown between the law enforcement agencies

Event organizer Chad Martin stated “In light of everything that is going on in Ferguson we think that this is a great way to be preventative” and offer communities an opportunity to establish positive relationships with local law enforcement in an effort to strengthen the bond between the community and law enforcement officers. Martin, an avid community servant and advocate for human rights saw the opportunity to bring local service agencies CONTACT and CAFV as sponsors/beneficiaries of the event. Executive Director Warren Rodgers, Jr. said of the event ”We are excited for the opportunity to participate in this event and help raise community awareness about free services available to those in crisis, or who may be surviving domestic/sexual violence, or homelessness. This is an excellent opportunity for the community to come out and enjoy a Saturday with family and friends while supporting local agencies that often work hand in hand to keep the community safe and free from violence.” Citizens Against Family Violence (CAFV) has been serving Martinsville since 1981 as the only Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault service provider for victims of violence in Martinsville, Henry, and Patrick Counties. CAFV is fully accredited by the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, a coalition which provides Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence agencies accreditation. CAFV has a long history of primary prevention in our community through its on-going awareness programs, public education, outreach to churches, counseling work, and collaborations with allied professionals and the general public. CAFV can be reached at (276) 632-8701 for information about how to access services, volunteer or donate.
