2014-15 LEADERSHIP PATRICK COUNTY PROGRAM NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS

August 19, 2014

The Patrick County Chamber of Commerce and the Reynolds Homestead are cosponsoring the county’s second leadership training class. Leadership Patrick County is an innovative program designed to develop the leadership potential of adults in the county. The program identifies emerging leaders, or those interested in simply learning more about the workings of and opportunities in Patrick County, and broadens their perspectives on civic leadership and community issues through direct interaction with community leaders and agencies in our area. This nine-month program will give participants a chance to interact with community leaders and institutions. Each monthly session will be a day-long focus on different aspects of the community, including town and county government, education, arts, business, nonprofit organizations, and tourism.

The program emphasizes leadership skills through multiple approaches such as site tours, lectures, small and large group discussions, panels, and hands-on activities. The program begins with a retreat focused on team building and identifying leadership styles and culminates with a graduation ceremony to celebrate each participant’s commitment to Patrick County, and includes a visit to Richmond to see our local delegate and senator in action. The program selects a group of men and women from diverse ethnic and professional backgrounds, each possessing strong potential as a future community leader. Applicants must be at least 21 to take part and, if employed, have the permission of their employer to participate. Those interested need to complete an application (attached) which includes a commitment to participate in each session and in an outside-of-class community service project which includes planning, fundraising and beginning the project prior to completion of the class and graduation. Tuition to Leadership Patrick County is $125 for Chamber members or $175 for non-members. Tuition covers all meals and materials. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2014-2015 Leadership Patrick County class and are available by contacting either the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce or the Reynolds Homestead. Delegate Charles Poindexter, who hosted last year’s group in Richmond and who attended and spoke at their graduation, had this to say about the event and program, “I attend many functions but I want to let you know last Thursday evening was one of the best I’ll ever been involved with. It was also most personally enjoyable!!! Well done, great group of young leaders, and I congratulate you and your sponsors for this undertaking.” Please share this information with anyone who might be interested in participating. Applications are due to the Chamber office by Friday, September 5, 2014. The program is limited to 15 participants, so early application is encouraged. Lisa S.
