The JEB Stuart Birthplace Trust announces “Laurel Hill Day” on
May 24, 2014 at Laurel Hill, 1091 Ararat Highway, Ararat, VA,
beginning at 10:00 A. M. The Board of Directors,
Membership and supporters will celebrate and commemorate the life of Maj. Gen. J. E. B. Stuart, CSA, on this special day with food, fellowship, music entertainment, birthplace tours and special guest speakers. Admission is free.
Our guests will include Wayne Jones, a JEB Stuart impersonator,
Robert Trout, Author of several JEB Stuart books including, They Followed
The Plume, Memoirs of the Stuart Horse Artillery Battalion, and With
Pen And Saber.
Our music program will include Herbert and Tina Conner and
the Lone Ivy String Band.
We will also have a special museum and Civil War artifact
display and will sell gift items such as books, prints, mugs, T-shirts and much
more. This should be both educational
and entertaining event.
General Stuart was born on February 6, 1833, at Laurel Hill,
Ararat, VA. He
died on May 12, 1864 after a mortal wound at the Battle of Yellow Tavern, near Richmond, VA. In 2014 we give special attention to this
famous Patrick County native, 150 years after his
death.
