GO RED FOR WOMEN'S HEART HEALTH at The Reynolds Homestead on February 25th

February 19, 2014

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. The Friends of Reynolds Homestead will host a “Go Red for Women’s Heart Health” dinner and program on Tuesday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m. For women, the program is designed to share information on the specific signs and symptons and risk factors that women face, which are often quite different from and less well-known than those for men.

Guest speakers include Dr. Darnell Cockram, retired nurse and nurse educator, who received her BSN from U.Va., her master’s in nursing from Emory University, and her doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Virginia Tech. Dr. Cockram will address the signs and symptoms of heart disease in women. Also speaking will be Mrs. Nancy Dietz, a retired dietician, who will discuss the DASH diet and the importance of a healthy heart diet. Nancy has a BS degree in Foods and Nutrition from Boston University. She started her career as a dietitian at Mass General Hospital and also worked as a foods technologist at a corporation in Malden, Massachusetts. She worked for 15 years as a consultant dietitian for a local nursing home, has taught classes for the American Heart Association and the Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health, and is a former Board Member of the American Heart Association. Tickets to the event are $20 and advanced registration is required. Meet for healthy hors d’oeuvres from 5:30-6:00 p.m., with a heart-healthy dinner beginning at 6:00, followed by the program. Call today to register as seating is limited.
