There will be a silent auction fundraiser in progress, as we are looking to build a storage barn to address our storage issues and open up more space in the Community Enrichment Center for classes and events. Thanks to a generous donation by the Friends of Reynolds Homestead , Legendary Bicentennial Kick-Off Event on Saturday, February 15 is now FREE! We are so excited to offer a lovely Wine and Cheese Reception with guest speakers, including: · Former Attorney General Mary Sue Terry, who will speak about the role her family, and most especially her mother Nanny C. Terry, played in the establishment of the Reynolds Homestead; · Matthew Traught, whose study as a Garden Club of Virginia intern this summer, discovered that many of the “facts” we had taught as history were just not correct (hence, the “legendary” in our Bicentennial); · Shaun Spencer-Hester, whose grandmother was the poet Anne Spencer, and whose great-grandmother was born on the Rock Spring Plantation in 1860; and · Julie Walters-Steele will address the plans for the future of the Reynolds Homestead, including possible new construction, re-envisioning of the presentation of the historic home, and potential partnerships that present great opportunities for us.
