Results from The JEB Stuart Trust Bi-monthly Meeting Held in November of 2013

The JEB Stuart Birthplace Trust held its last bi-monthly
meeting of 2013 on November 12, 2013 and confirmed its officers for 2014 as follows:
Shirley Keene, President, Ronnie Hayes, Vice President, Shelby Puckett, Secretary, Brian Jessup, Treasurer, and Tom Bishop, Publicity and Media Relations
The Birthplace Trust hosted a tour of Laurel Hill for Patrick County young professionals on December
11, 2013. The group was led by Tm Collins, Executive Director of the Patrick
County Chamber of Commerce. Tour guides
for Laurel Hill were Shelby Puckett, Ronnie Haynes, and Tom Bishop.
On December 18, Shirley Keene and Tom Bishop visited Yellow
Tavern, battle site near Richmond,
VA, where Maj. Gen. J. E. B.
Stuart was mortally wounded on May 11, 1864.
While there they were given a tour by Robert Krick, Jr. of the National
Park Service and Mary Sands Satterwhite, Guest Curator of the Meadow Farm
Museum. On had for this was retired Lt. Col. J. E. B.
Stuart, IV, Henry Kidd, Civil War Artist and Re-enactor, Vicky Stevens of the
Henrico County Historical Society and retired professor Dr. Jean Maurice
Duke. While there, discussions were
conducted concerning the planned commemoration of the 150th
anniversary of the death of Gen. Stuart called “Clash At The Gates of
Richmond.”
The Birthplace Trust is planning a JEB Stuart birthday party
on February 8, at Granny’s Attic antique mall in Stuart, 10:00am-2:00pm. There will be a live WHEO radio remote and
free birthday cake and lemonade. The
Birthplace has a vendor spot in the store with many Civil War books, prints,
children’s books and toys, T-shirt, hats, coffee mugs, and many more items to
sale. This event is free and open to the
public. Granny’s Attic is located at 301 South Main Street,
Stuart.
The Annual Civil War Encampment and Living History will be
held on October 4 and 5, 2014 at Laurel Hill, Ararat,VA,
Gen. Stuart’s birthplace.
