The Stokes County Arts Council is pleased to announce the opening of “Dimensional Works and Paintings” -- an exhibition of original art by artist, John Gibbs, in the Apple Gallery. A reception is scheduled for Sunday, August 24th from 3:00-4:30pm in the Apple Gallery of the Stokes County Arts Council 500 Main Street Danbury, NC. John Gibbs is an artist based in Greensboro, NC. Trained in sculpture and scientific illustration at the University of Michigan, John has been painting and sculpting professionally since early 2000. A featured artist in New American Paintings, John’s work has sold in galleries in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and North Carolina. While living in Lancaster, PA John was an Artist in Residence at a non-profit teaching foundry. During that time, he produced commissioned works for Millersville University and others while building the foundry and art gallery facilities and exhibiting his artwork in the region. Since moving to Greensboro, John continued painting and sculpting completing public and private commissions while exhibiting in area galleries. His most recent sculpture utilizes cardboard to create stunningly impactful 3D art. His artwork can be seen at johngibbsart.com Artist Statement: “My current work utilizes cardboard as a sculptural medium. This work aims to raise awareness about endangered species and natural beauty, while also reflecting on our broader environmental challenges and elevating the reuse of post-consumer materials with a low carbon footprint. By choosing cardboard as my medium, I not only create a visual impact but also introduce a layer of familiarity that invites viewers to connect on a personal level. Cardboard is often associated with everyday life, packaging, and consumer goods, making it a poignant choice to comment on themes of consumerism and waste. Through my sculptural work, I hope to provoke thoughtful discussions about sustainability and our responsibility toward the planet. It’s a reminder that the choices we make as consumers can have significant consequences for wildlife and the environment. Ultimately, I aspire to inspire others to consider their impact and take action to protect our world.” This exhibit will be on display August 16-September 30, 2025 in the Apple Gallery. The Stokes County Arts Council is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm, Saturday, 10:00a.m.-6:00p.m. and Sunday 12:00pm-6:00pm.
