Tom Bishop Speaks at the Martinsville, VA Rotary Club

Tom Bishop, Executive Director fo the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce spoke at the Martinsville Rotary Club meeting on April 10, 2007.
He described how the Chamber promotes the county's agriculture, scenic beauty and festivals. He attributed the 4 per cent unemployment rate and the addition of 100 houses a year in part to the chamber's efforts.
Bishop discussed the rural nature of the county, and said it is an attracting many retirees who are drawn by its undeveloped areas, scenery and low cost of living.
The county has four music parks where events are held, he said. Wayside Park is home of the annual Beach Music festival, Dominion Valley Park hosts gospel music, Floydfest has two music events per year and Rotary Field hosts music concerts once each month of the yea.
He discussed the county's historical museum, Reynolds Homestead, the Woods Brothers Racing Museum and the Virginia Motorsports Museum.
Lumber products are a staple of the economy, he said. It has two flooring companies as well as some textile production and machine manufacturer.
