Appalachian Power Has 6500 customers out of power-Stuart, VA

According to Appalachian Power's web site, 23000 customers were out of power in Virginia service territory early Monday morning due to the severe wind storm.

Update: 11:00 AM, 4/17/2007 High, gusty winds in the Virginia service territory resulted in nearly 23,000 customers losing electric power early Monday morning. As the day progressed, the number increased to nearly 50,000. The majority of the outages were caused when the winds blew down trees, and tree limbs, and blew power lines down. Nearly 300 Appalachian Power employees are working on the storm. In addition, 320 line personnel from outside of the area, and 240 tree-trimming personnel are working to restore service. Additional line crews are coming from West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. The situation in Stuart, VA area has gotten progressively worse, with 6500 outages at 11:00am on April 17th.
