Del Ward Armstrong elected Minority Leader-State Legislature
February 25, 2007
Democrats in the House of Delegates on Saturday elected a new Minority Leader, Ward L. Armstrong of Henry County.
On a 27-12 vote, the Democrats chose Armstrong as their leader, ousting Del. Franklin P. Hall of Richmond, who spent six years in the post. The change comes as Democrats attempt to retake the majority Republicans now hold in the House and Senate in November's elections for all 140 General Assembly seats. The leader of the caucus coordinates his party's actions on the House floor, recruits prospective candidates and influences where hundreds of thousands of dollars in Democratic campaign contributions are directed. "Frank did a great job and we're all appreciative to Frank for his efforts. Our view here isn't a look in the rear view mirror, it's a look forward," Armstrong told reporters shortly after the election.
