Mabry Mill Iced Over-Feb. 15th

February 17, 2007

Mabry Mill, located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Meadows of Dan, VA is iced over due to the ice storm that hit that area.

The picturesque scene is presented here for those who enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and frequently travel the Blue Ridge Parkway. The picture was taken late morning, February 15, 2007 by Tom Bishop, Executive Director of the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce. At this time of the year, I do not recommend traveling the Parkway due to the number of limbs downed on the roadway. Many portions of roadway are icy and should not be the time for a scenic drive. The white ducks that normally sit on the water were cuddled up near the split rail fence. I tried to shoo them over to the water so it would enhance the looks of my picture, but they would not budge. On this day, there were numerous power outages on the mountains, due to the ice storm. For those who might be interested, we are told this rustic grist mill is the most photographed site in the entire National Park system. Maybe the most photographed site in the United States.
