When Mike Burnette took over the post of Patrick County administrator on Thursday, he hit the ground running.
Burnett, 35, has served as assistant county administrator for the past three years. As a result, "I am well aware of the challenges facing Patrick County as we move forward," Burnette said.
I want to be as progressive as possible, Providing the services local citizens need and want while keeping our taxes low.
"The board of supervisors is currently looking at a number of different ways to serve all demographic groups".
One way that might be accomplished is through the construction of a wellness center that would serve not only the older population, but also appeal to younger age groups.
County officials are aware of "a very good model"in the Carroll County Wellness Center. That facility "has a lot of recreational opportunities" f or both the young and old.
Although they are early in the process of considering the feasibility
of a similar facility in Patrick County.
I think that Patrick County is headed in a very good, positive direction right now, with low taxes, a growing economy and world-class school system.
As he takes over the helm of leading the county following the retirement of current County Administrator Regena Handy, Burnette said, "I believe it is my job to protect those things and build upon them".
Burnette, a native of Patrick County, has a bachelor's degree in business management and marketing from the University of Virginia.
He and his wife, Christa, have a daughter, 4yr old Claire.
