Delegate Charles Poindexter Helps Celebrate a 15-Year Anniversary of DMV Select in Stuart, VA

Delegate Charles Poindexter joined DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb and leaders from Patrick County and the town of Stuart to help celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the Stuart DMV Select during a flag-presentation ceremony on Thursday, May 2.
Stuart is one of 57 DMV Selects throughout the state that provide an alternative to visiting a full-service DMV customer service center. DMV Selects process mostly vehicle transactions and are in convenient locations in areas where customers may otherwise have to drive long distances to get to a DMV customer service center. The Stuart Select is operated by Patrick County Administrator and Select agent Tom Rose and Select managers Sharon Hooker and Shirley Rorrer.
“This DMV Select is a great example of how to streamline government services to serve citizens, particularly in a rural area like Patrick County ,” said Delegate Poindexter in his remarks during the ceremony.
DMV has had a presence in Patrick County for 48 years, dating back to 1965. DMV contracted with individuals to provide services until DMV and the Town of Stuart entered in to the current Select agreement in 1998.
In addition to the Select office, DMV provides service to Patrick County through its DMV 2 Go mobile offices. DMV 2 Go complements services already provided by the Stuart DMV Select. The full service office provides all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver's licenses and ID cards including Virginia ’s veterans ID card. Road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants may get their pictures taken.
DMV 2 Go will return to Patrick County on July 30 and October 29, 2013. The mobile office will be parked at Patrick Henry Community College , Stuart site, located at 212 Johnson Street , Stuart , VA 24171 .
