Tom Bishop Announces His Candidacy For Supervisor

Tom Bishop, retired Executive Director of the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce has announced his run for Board of Supervisors, representing the Dan River District. Tom resides in the Dry Pond area of the Dan River District with his wife, Connie and his mother-in-law, Alicia Sizemore. Tom previously worked for Union Carbide for 31 years in finance and accounting and served as a Senior Project Manager. He also served as General Manager of Brintle Enterprises in Mt. Airy , NC managing a Travel Plaza business for 5 years. He has just retired as the Executive Director of the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce after seven years of dedicated service. He is a member of the Red Bank Ruritan Club in Claudville and a member of the Mt. View Pentecostal Holiness Church in Claudville where he serves as Sunday School Teacher and member of the church choir.

Tom has announced 3 major positions he will take as Supervisor: 1. To provide a reasonable and common sense approach to managing an efficient Patrick County Government. 2. To promote growth of small business, providing additional jobs for our citizens, and providing an increasing tax base, taking the burden off the general public for tax revenues. And to further support our existing businesses, so we do not lose ground. 3. To promote the Dan River District and Patrick County at every turn to insure that businesses looking to relocate here will have a positive image of our County. Further, Tom says he will be a supporter of our schools, churches, fire and rescue squads, and emergency services. He will support the special needs of Senior Citizens in Patrick County , and support the historical locations in the Dan River District, such as the JEB Stuart Birthplace and The Hollow History Center. He will advocate the cause of the Dan River Park in Ararat, which has developed into an excellent recreational facility. Tom has the reputation as a promoter of the small businesses in Patrick County such as: a. Agriculture industry, orchards, greenhouses, and tourism b. Restaurants, convenience stores and other retail stores. c. Lodging, cabins, bed and breakfast businesses. d. Industrial – factories, logging, sawmills, lumber, and forestry products. Tom has promised the support for paving of gravel roads in the Dan River District at every opportunity considering the limited funding available. Tom pledges to continue to provide support for civic clubs and community organizations. They provide a vital set of voluntary services to our community. Tom says, “I am especially proud Patrick County as a great place to live and work, which provides an excellent quality of life.” In summary, Tom promises to be a positive voice for Patrick County , representing the Dan River District which is well known for its farms, orchards and greenhouses.
