Virginia Cooperative Extension FIT Stuart "Couch to 5K" Program Announced

Does walking or running a mile seem impossible to you? Have you had the goal of training for a 5K on your bucket list? Would you like to be part of a group that has fun and gets fit at the same time? What about your children, do you think they would be interested in finishing a 5K with you?
Virginia Cooperative Extension FIT Stuart “couch to 5K” training focuses on beginners, but all levels of walkers and runners are welcome. The program is structured to help you cross the finish line of your first 5K in six weeks. Along the way we provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, weekly group training walks or runs, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear, and avoiding injury. But the most popular reason for participating in the program is you’ll have the support of others just like you.
Looking for something for the whole family? Happy Soles Running is the new youth component! This portion of the program is designed for children 5 and up with all levels of ability. The youth programs will be offered the same dates and times as the adult program to encourage families to work toward the goal race together.
The program will begin Tuesday March 19th, 2013 and meet every Tuesday and Thursday for six weeks leading up to our goal race of Racing for Education, April 20th in Stuart. The program fee is $40.00 and includes two supervised training sessions held at DeHart Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30, , a water bottle, t-shirt, journal, and other goodies.
If you are unable to participate based on the fee, scholarship money may be available. Please request a scholarship form if you are interested in participating but unable to pay the participation fee. Forms as well as other information will be available at the Patrick County Extension Office.
