County Chamber Director Writes Letter of Support for Rt. 58 Bond Issue
February 7, 2013
Feb. 7-Stuart-The Patrick County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director has written an urgent letter to the Senate Finance Chairman Walter Stosch to urge passage of HB 1953.
The Honorable Walter A. Stosch
Chairman, Senate Finance Committee
P.O. Box 406
General Assembly Building
Richmond, VA 23218
Dear Chairman Stosch,
This is an urgent call for support for House Bill 1953, which deals with a Bond Issue to fund the completion of the 4-lane highway up Lover’s Leap Mountain, Route 58, which would further complete “Super 58”. This segment of highway is between Stuart, VA and Meadows of Dan, VA in Patrick County, VA.
It is heavily used daily for our County School busses transporting students up and down the mountain in all kinds of weather. Therefore it an important safety issue for our school kids.
This is a critical corridor for Economic Development and connecting Hillsville and Wytheville (Interstate 77) and the growing operations of the Port of Virginia and Hampton Roads. It can also help reduce the traffic flow and congestion on Interstate 64 and Interstate 81.
This road can bring more of the Tourism Industry to our area, which is very scenic and connects to the all important Blue Ridge Parkway and the Crooked Road Music Trail.
We urge you and your Finance Committee to take this legislation up and give it careful consideration!
Sincerely,
Tom Bishop, Executive Director
