James "Jimmie" East, age 78 of Patrick Springs, VA passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Norris Funeral Home in Stuart, VA.

Here is obituary from Norris Funerall Home web site: James Dietrich “Jimmie” East, 78, of 21723 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Patrick Springs, VA died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at his home. He was born on April 13, 1934 in Patrick County, VA to the late, John Lee “Dump” East and Gladys Fulcher East. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Daphne East Lowry. Mr. East was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Patrick Springs, VA where he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees and was the Building Project Coordinator. He was a Patrick County Supervisor (Peters Creek District), charter member of both Patrick Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. for 43 years and Patrick Springs Ruritan Club, he was on the Board of the Martinsville Collation of Health & Wellness and the Anchor House, past Board member of the First National Bank/BB&T (Patrick Springs Branch) and was a key supporter of the Patrick Springs Water and Sewer Project. He owned and operated Patrick Springs Exxon, Patrick Springs, VA, was co-owner of Town and Country Market in Patrick Springs, VA and had worked at J.C. Joyce Paving as a Licensed Plumber and Electrician. Mr. East was an auto enthusiast and loved auto racing and was a big fan of Wood Brother’s Racing and served in the U. S. Army as a helicopter mechanic and instructor. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Carolyn R. East of the home; daughter, Lynne Dietrich Hylton of Patrick Springs, VA and her friend, Jeff Borowiec; one brother, Bill East and his wife, Margaret East of Martinsville, VA; two granddaughters, Christina Dietrich Hylton and Amanda Holt and her husband, Brett Holt; three nephews and one niece. Mr. East was devoted to his wife, children, family and church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Norris Funeral Services Stuart Chapel with Pastor David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be at Patrick Memorial Gardens, Stuart, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Norris Funeral Services and other times at the home.
