Sixty runners braved the chilly temperatures Saturday morning to come out and take part in the Apple Dumpling Festival 5k. The course traversed the Mayo River Rail Trail, the Landmark property, Developmental road and proposed extension of the trail. This course made it one of the most flat road races in Patrick County. The overall winner was RJ Scott from Bassett in a time of 19:33, followed by Alfredo Garcia in 19:49, and Mark Joyce rounded out the top three in a time of 20:25. Overall Male Masters winner was Laine Dalton of Stuart in 21:07. For the women, top winner was Tanya Fulk of King NC 27:59, Sarah Brinks in 28:09 and third was Brandy Arnold in 28:15. Overall Female Masters was Laura Smith in a time of 28:52. Money raised from the event helps the Dan River Basin Association with trail development and enhancement in Patrick County.
