PATRICK COUNTY, VA co-hosts FLW College Fishing Championship with 20 college teams and 7 high school teams. from nine states.
PATRICK COUNTY CO-HOSTS FLW COLLEGE FISHING CHAMPIONSHIP
20 college teams and 7 high school teams (2 per team) from nine states competed in the Northern Conference FLW College Fishing Championship September 13-15, 2012 at Philpott Lake. Take-offs took place each morning at Twin Ridge Recreation area in Henry, VA followed by a Fan Expo and weigh-in and a televised webcast at the Wal-Mart in Martinsville.
The week began with a welcome reception and registration at the Fayerdale Conference Center
at Fairy Stone State Park on Wednesday evening. The Expo opened each day with the National
Anthem. Patrick County’s Teddy Alt played the National Anthem on saxophone on day two. FLW and their staff visited area schools to educate students and staff about conservation and promote youth fishing. They also hired Patrick Henry Community College & Patrick County High School
students to work at the Fan Expo.
The economic impact of the overall event is estimated at $490,566.
Winners– Ramapo College, second- Fairmont State; third- SUNY Plattsburg; Fourth and Fifth - the two teams from VA Tech.
