Jul. 27-A Canadian skateboarder died Friday when he was struck by a pick up truck in Patrick County, VA, on Squirrel Spur Road.

An earlier report from the state police was inaccurate. | Our corrections policy A Canadian skateboarder died Friday when he was struck by a pickup truck in Patrick County near the ongoing FloydFest music festival, police said. Maxime Benoit, 26, of Granby, Quebec, was wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene after the 12:30 p.m. crash, Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Rob Carpentieri said. Benoit was southbound on Squirrel Spur Road 3 miles south of Bell Spur Road when he was struck head-on by a 2001 Ford F450 being driven north by Galen Roger Huff, 66, of Floyd, Carpentieri said. No charges have been filed in the incident, which is still under investigation, Carpentieri said. The crash happened about 15 miles south of the ongoing FloydFest music festival, which annually draws crowds from several states and countries. Carpentieri said he wasn't sure if Benoit had been attending the festival.
