May 21, 2012
Mrs. Geneva Foley of Spring Road in Patrick Springs, VA is named "Mother of The Year" on May 10 by the Patrick Springs Ruritan Club. Pictured to her left is JoAnn Clement and on her right, David Clement.
"Today we would like to honor a wonderful person from our community who has lived here for over 80 years. She was born in Patrick County and comes from a family of 10 children. She married young and enjoyed that relationship nearly 40 years. She was a full-time homemaker and lovingly raised 7 children.
She is very active in church and takes pride in maintaining the cemetery grounds. Her devotion to God shines through each day in her attitude, energy, and positive outlook. Through hardship and loss, she has remained independent and strong. She is a modest woman who enjoys the simple things in life. She truly appreciates nature and the beauty of God’s Creation. She loves to work in her vegetable garden, yard, and flowers. She mows her own lawn and helps deliver wood to people in the community. You will often find her gazing from her window at the birds and squirrels, or on a nature walk. And in the winter, you may even see her building an igloo or snow sledding. She has a great sense of humor, a sharp mind, and is one of the most generous people you will ever meet. This lady also makes the BEST apple pie and biscuits in the world!
She is a loving, supportive, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and is always there anytime we need her. She is the matriarch of our family and the glue that binds us together. We are blessed to call her “Ma”, “Mama”, “Gram”, and “Grandma”…but you all know her as Geneva Foley, our Mother of the Year!"
