Source: Roanoke Times, May 7, 2012 3 die in 4-vehicle crash on U.S. 220 near Boones Mill One of the victims was Chance Taylor, 26, a musician in several Roanoke Valley bands. By Mike Gangloff A pickup truck heading the wrong way on U.S. 220 began a four-vehicle crash that killed three people and sent another to the hospital Saturday night in Franklin County. Jarrett Chance Taylor, 26, a Rocky Mount musician in several bands that played regularly around the Roanoke Valley, died in the wreck. So did his father, Randy C. Taylor, 60, a worker at Steel Dynamics Inc. who also lived in Rocky Mount. Donald D. Conner Jr., 52, of Floyd also was dead at the scene, Virginia State Police reported Sunday. The younger Taylor, who went by his middle name, "could play a little bit on every instrument, but could lay it down on drums like no other we have ever played with," recalled Josh Lynch, a bandmate in Tobacco Apache, one of three ensembles Taylor was playing with. The wreck occurred about 8:52 p.m. Saturday when a 1992 Dodge Dakota pickup traveled north in the highway's southbound lanes, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said in a statement. About a half mile north of U.S. 220's intersection with Virginia 919, near Boones Mill, the pickup collided with a southbound 2004 Chrysler Sebring. A 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and a 2006 Toyota Tundra, both following the Sebring, ran into the wreck. Conner was driving the pickup. Randy Taylor was driving the Sebring and his son was riding along. None of the three men killed was wearing a seat belt, state police said.
