Sharon Denise Bassett, age 50, was killed Friday afternoon when her 2005 Nissan Sentra ran off of Rt 645 (Hatcher's Chapel Rd.) Claudville, VA about 1 p.m. Friday and struck a utility pole.

The driver who was not wearing a seat belt was ejected from the vehicle and was prounounced dead at the scene, State Police Sgt. Rob Carpenteri said. News source: WHEO 1270 NEWS AND WDBJ Channel 7 Virginia State Police say the crash happened at about 1:00pm. Sharon Bassett was driving on Route 645, when her car veered off the road. Investigators say she overcorrected, and her car ended up going off of the other side of the road and into a utility pole. Officers say Bassett was not wearing a seatbelt, and was thrown from the car. Bassett was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police say she was from Claudeville.
