March 5, 2012
Advanced Learning and Research regarding the two new positions CCAM plans to hire late spring.

Southern Virginia Colleagues and Friends, The Southern Virginia Regional Alliance is working with the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) on hosting a regional meeting at 2:00 p.m. on April 5th at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research regarding the two new positions CCAM plans to hire late spring. Below explains more about the meeting, but it is our hope you can attend and offer input as to how we can all work together to ensure our region is ready to secure advanced manufacturing projects looking at Virginia to do business. The Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) is an industry-led, university-implemented applied research consortium based at Crosspointe, the Rolls-Royce industrial campus in Prince George County. Current industry members are: Rolls-Royce, Canon Virginia Inc, Chromalloy, Newport News Shipbuilding, Sandvik Coromant, Siemens, Sulzer Metco, and Aerojet. Founding university partners are the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Virginia State University. CCAM received funding from the Tobacco Commission to hire a director of workforce development and a director of economic development; those two positions are intended to work exclusively with organizations in SS and SW Virginia to help draw suppliers related to Rolls-Royce and other companies to the tobacco footprint. Last summer some of you met with Will Powers, the Chief Financial Officer of Rolls-Royce, and learned more about the Rolls-Royce investment in Virginia and its potential impact in Southern Virginia. Barry Johnson, chairman of the board of directors for CCAM, and Hugh Keogh, President emeritus of the Virginia Chamber and a consultant to CCAM would like to meet with representatives from your area to provide an update on CCAM/Crosspointe, talk in more detail about the new CCAM positions, and solicit input about how to coordinate with existing activities and partners. More information on the positions can be found on the CCAM website, http://www.ccam-va.com/careers/. Again, the meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on April 5th at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville. We would very much appreciate your attendance so that your experience and insight can help guide the conversation. Please RSVP to me at lcockram@gosouthernvirginia.com by March 28th. Should you have someone else within your organization you would like to attend, please just let me know so we can have plenty of seats. Regards, Leigh Cockram Executive Director Southern Virginia Regional Alliance 300 Ringgold Industrial Parkway Danville, VA 24540 Phone: 434-710-2868 lcockram@gosouthernvirginia.com www.GoSouthernVirginia.com
