Power failures following heavy rain and wind affected Henry and Patrick counties Wednesday night and prompted officials to cancel a basketball game at Magna Vista High School.
As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Appalachian Power Co. reported that 158 customers in Henry County and 1,973 in Patrick County were without power. They represented less than 1 percent of the company’s Henry County customers and about 16 percent of its Patrick County customers, according to information on Appalachian’s website.
Appalachian spokesman Todd Burns did not have information about what caused the failures. However, there were several reports of downed trees in Patrick County.
