STUART — Excitement, elation, and possibly a pinch of relief.
Those adjectives — as much as three words can — describe the sound that echoed from Patrick County’s dugout following Saturday’s 3-1 win over Tunstall in the Piedmont District tournament final.
“It’s very exciting. We’ve been working for the district regular-season and the tournament titles for a long time, said Patrick County shortstop Kylene Culler, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. “We came out strong in the district, and it was very exciting to be able to finish it here on the field.
During a Memorial Day weekend that saw a slew of Lady Cougars graduate, PCHS capped its Saturday by ending a PD title drought that began back in 2004, while in the process extending this season’s win streak to 15 straight.
“I’d say this is the best day of my life, said Stovall.
“I was definitely ready for this game, and it definitely adds to the day. Another one of our goals are met. Ready to move on into regionals, she added.
Backed by Stovall’s effort on the mound and Culler’s production at the plate, Patrick County (18-4 overall) managed a quick comeback to top Tunstall and gain momentum heading into Tuesday’s first round of regional play.
